Spotted - Interactive aquarium at Suvarnabhumi Airport

I can't swim.

I spotted this interactive flat screen aquarium at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok City during our recent business trip.

It was newly installed and would definitely attract your attention.

Plenty of passengers were mesmerized upon seeing themselves immersed inside the aquarium with aquatic animals around them.

The new Multi-Level Parking of NAIA Airport Terminal 3

Good news for those who intend to fly and leave their car at NAIA Terminal 3, the multi-level covered parking has been opened since late last year. There is no need to leave your car at the open parking area where it is exposed to harsh elements and unscrupulous individuals.

parking ticket
We tried their new multi-level parking recently. Together with the wife and daughter we flew to Bangkok for business on 16th and returned back on 20th of April.

The parking rate is as follows:

50 pesos for less than a day
300 pesos for overnight parking (more than 24 hours)
500 pesos for lost parking ticket

We entered the parking area at 4 am on 16th and left the place at around 2:30 pm on 20th of April. Strictly speaking we availed their parking services for more than 4 days, if you will count it by hours. Nevertheless, we were billed 1,200 pesos only; they counted 4 calendar days.

Upon our return from Bangkok, I inspected thoroughly our car and fortunately everything was in order. No punctured or flat tire and no new scratches. In short, nothing was amiss.

A very important thing to remember for first time users of this parking facility, the entrance/exit of this multi-level parking is at the ground level or arrival level. I drove through the departure ramp expecting that I could access the multi-level parking building from this level. The lady guard on-duty stopped me from entering the parking area and said that access on this level was limited for airport's personnel or employees only. She added that I need to go down and make a u-turn near Remington Hotel and go back to the round-about again and drive through the arrival level. It was fortunate that we have ample time to spare though I can sense that the wife was ready to go beast mode, LOL.

We left the departure ramp and followed the instruction of the lady guard. At the farthest end of the arrival road is the entrance to the multi-level parking. I got the parking ticket and searched for a vacant space near the entrance so that guards would always be near our car. Let me emphasize that I didn't inform anybody about my intention to leave our car for several days. I simply parked it and went directly to the access door of the airport arrival lobby. To add, if the ground level parking is full you can proceed to the higher level parking area.

We entered the airport access door at the corner of arrival hall; we took the elevator at the left side. Once inside the elevator we pressed LD (departure level). Before you can enter the departure area you need to put all your bags inside the x-ray machine for inspection.

Upon your return and going back to the multi-level parking from arrival hall is pretty simple as well, just proceed to the the right side corner; don't go out of airport building. You'll see at the farthest end the access door to the multi-level parking. However, if you left your car at higher level then you need to take the elevator.

The whole process is relatively easy if you are familiar with SM Malls covered parking. I can also say that the place is secured since only passengers and airport staffs have access to this multi-level parking unlike the open air parking where individuals lurk for many reasons.

your official receipts upon surrendering your parking ticket

I have checked the parking tickets and noticed that the security staff would report to the proper authority for proper action in case a vehicle has been left for more than 24 hours without prior arrangement with the management. Thus, it is up to you whether you want to inform the security staff about your intention in leaving your vehicle for more than 24 hours. In our case, we simply left our car and retrieved it after four days.

This facility is very much needed due to growing passenger traffic at Terminal 3 since five major international airlines have transferred their operation here from Terminal 1. In addition, it was always very difficult to find a vacant space at their open air parking area specially during peak hours.

Update as of 9 June 2015

Once more, we left our family car on the evening of 5th of June and retrieved it upon our arrival on 9th of June at around 7 am; nothing amiss. Again, we didn't mention to the security staff that we would leave our car for a few days.

We were billed 1,200 pesos though we haven't completed 96 hours or four days. This time we left our car at the second floor since the ground floor was full when we arrived. On our return, we found a handful of cars parked at the second floor.

Tasty and cheesy pizzas at Pizza Volante at Wright Park, Baguio City

Last Christmas holidays the family stayed for several days at the City of Pines. With multitudes of seasonal crowds from different parts of the country enjoying Baguio's chilly weather we found it difficult to find dining places anywhere in Baguio City especially within Camp John Hay area. In fact we forego our plan to eat at Ketchup Food Community due to long queue of diners. Fortunately, Pizza Volante has opened a new branch beside Ketchup and directly opposite Wright Park; the best thing was we were number three on waiting list. Actually, we planned to dine at their Session Road branch but we were lucky to find another branch in the right place at the right time.

We waited for around 30 minutes before a table was released to us by the supervisor. Upon arrival you need to inform the supervisor so he would put you on waiting list otherwise you won't be able to have a table.

Though the air conditioned dining area was small its outdoor al fresco garden dining area was quite spacious; the greenery enhances the whole dining experience, not to mention the nice chilly weather.

where are the toppings?

my Fish and Chips

wife's Pasta

kids dessert

does my Apple pie looks yummy?

In less than thirty minutes our orders were served. The pizza has thick layer of cheese but lacking of ingredients; nevertheless it tastes good. The pasta is also tasty but nothing special. My fish and chips is just average though I appreciate it being served hot. Stay away from apple pie.

The price is reasonable compared with established global pizza brands. Though there is 5% service charge, VAT is included on menu price.

This place is open 24 hours and with live band during weekend. Good place to visit if you are craving for pizza while enjoying the chilly weather of Baguio City. Be aware though that parking is along the main road.

Dad's Review - Thanks Zalora!

As a Dad, I normally purchase all my needs from shops and malls and stay away from online shopping though I own an online shop for ladies clothes. Quite ironic isn't it?

However, upon receiving an email from my credit card provider stating that I am entitled for a 500 pesos discount from Zalora regardless of amount purchased a bell rung inside my head.

My wife recently celebrated her birthday without any gift from me. Actually, I was abroad while my daughter arranged for a surprise party with matching bouquet of flowers. Now that I am home for my vacation I took this opportunity to ask my wife to select an item from Zalora's product lines as her belated birthday gift. She was elated upon learning that we can save 500 pesos from Zalora; when it comes to pampering herself my wife is frugal and spendthrift, as expected from a mother who has three kids in school.

She ended up with a cross-body bag worth more than a thousand pesos. Less 500 pesos, the "Mango" bag price seemed reasonable considering shipping fee was included in the price, not to mention the hassle-free shopping experience

In short, after three days, my wife received her bag while I ended up with a steamy and romantic evening, LOL.

Thanks Zalora! A Dad couldn't ask for more.

Beware of bag slashers at Pratunam Market

A few days back, my colleague brought his family in Bangkok and upon my prodding stayed at Pratunam area.

I gave him countless of advice on how to save money and places to visit during their stay in Bangkok City. I even narrated to him how I was robbed by pickpockets while shopping at Pratunam Market. I added how one of our colleagues was also victimized by these unscrupulous individuals.

On their first day, unfortunately, his wife's bag was slashed while shopping at Pratunam Market. She lost cash and her credit cards.

Upon learning their predicament I can not help but feel sad and angry why these unfortunate events happen to my hard working colleagues at the same place. Because of this, I surmise that their sad experiences serve as warning to tourists who intend to shop in Pratunam Market.
