Dad's Review - Practical tips for Filipino tourist workers to avoid getting offloaded

It pains me whenever I see fellow Filipinos waiting for an interview at immigration departure area especially when they look worried since I know they need to convince the interviewer to allow them to catch their flights. I underwent the same procedure a few years back and fortunately I was able to persuade the interviewer to allow me to proceed with my job interview in Abu Dhabi city.

After spending money and resources I couldn't imagine the anguish and disappointment of those passengers offloaded by immigration officers due to one reason or another. Sometimes, a sudden whim by an immigration officer can spell disaster to any unprepared passenger.

Having worked for many years in a country where travel ban has been imposed several times in the past, my colleagues and I learned how to go around these travel restrictions. More so, being a regular traveler to Bangkok when sourcing our online shop products and previous family trips abroad has made me aware of the ins and outs of some of our immigration policies.

To my knowledge, an immigration officer can prevent you from leaving the country due to following reasons:

1. You have a "Hold Departure Order."
2. You have bogus travel documents such as passport and/or visa.
3. You are an undocumented worker or in other words a "tourist worker."

Plenty of Filipinos who have been asked to undergo for interview fall under category 3. It is not illegal to become a tourist worker per se; our immigration authority would not send you to jail even if they caught you red-handed. In my case, I got several valid job offers in the past and left our country as tourist several times without ado. Let me share some tips and advice to all Filipino tourist workers to minimize the possibility of getting offloaded.

Aside from passport that is valid for at least 6 months, I recommend the following steps to be followed by any Filipino tourist worker:

1. As much as possible do not indicate or divulge to the interviewer that you have a relative or friend residing in the country you plan to visit. Chances are they will demand for other supporting and sometimes annoying documents such as affidavit of support, marriage contract, birth certificate, pictures, etc. They normally demand these from tourists who have relatives or friends in Singapore and Dubai. They might even try to coerce you to call your relative or friend abroad during the interview. Hence, it is better for the interviewer to have an impression that you simply want to visit the place and you don't know anybody in that country thereby reducing the possibility of overstaying.

2. Buy your own round-trip tickets. If the interviewer detects that your tickets have been bought by other people then you have given him a reason to expound his investigation. It means there is a probability that your future employer or your recruiter is the one who has provided these tickets. One of the basic arguments being used by our immigration officers is that a tourist should have the capacity to buy his/her own plane tickets.

Update about this matter (17 Feb 2015)

I have been told that the immigration authority have access to airlines flight manifest/database thus they will know if you have connecting flight. Hence, if your final destination is different from the place you wanted to visit then make sure that your connecting flight is booked with different carrier to avoid detection by our IO.

3. Prepare hotel/hostel booking; this is essential for any legitimate tourist. Without this, don't be surprised if the immigration officer assume that you have another destination and you will use your stated destination as transit point only. Trust me, you'll find it pretty difficult to explain during the interview how you are going to spend your vacation without any proper hotel/hostel booking.

In case you don't really need to stay in the hotel/hostel then it is preferable to have hotel booking that you can show to the immigration officer. You can do this if you have a credit card; you can book your room several weeks before your flight through internet then cancel it few days before your flight. Just make sure that there is no cancellation fee for the room you have booked. By doing this, you can have a hotel/hostel booking that you can show to the interviewer.

4. If possible bring your spouse or kids with you if you plan to transit in another country. It is a common notion that a tourist worker won't spend extra money if he/she is fishing for a job abroad. Once you arrive in your stated destination then enjoy your visit with your spouse/kids. They can return back to Philippines without you while you continue your journey to your final destination. This worked with me and my other colleagues when we were trapped in Philippines during the travel ban to the country where we were working. One of my colleagues even got married and was able to leave with his new wife pretending they were going for honeymoon; the interviewer simply looked at their wedding pictures. It was a gamble on our part because if by chance we were stopped from leaving then we would suffer financial loss. Nonetheless, most of us were successful in leaving our country this way. A good place to visit is Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vietnam and Cambodia while avoid as much as possible Singapore and Malaysia as transit points since many tourists workers are leaving to find work on these places already.

In fact my wife was interviewed by an immigration officer a few years back before her flight to Kuala Lumpur with our youngest kid. She was honest with the interviewer and his supervisor, she informed them that I couldn't go home for vacation since I won't be able to return to my job due to travel ban to the country where I was working thus she and my youngest kid would meet me in Kuala Lumpur. She showed them their RT tickets and hotel booking. The immigration supervisor upon confirming all my previous flight details on their record or database finally allowed my wife and kid to catch their flight to Kuala Lumpur.

5. Research the place where you intend to visit as transit point. Example, tell them that there is an on-going celebration in Hong Kong Disneyland and you don't want your kids to miss it or it is summer vacation thus you are bringing the entire family to Bangkok for shopping. You are not lying since you and your spouse/kids will definitely visit those places and enjoy those events. You are simply withholding from the interviewer your plan to proceed and work in another country. More so, having a good travel plan or itinerary and knowledge about the place you intend to visit could sometimes turn the tide against the interviewer.

6. Secure all your work/school credentials and other related documents such as visa and another set of tickets to your final destination by placing them inside your check-in baggage. It is not uncommon for the interviewer to bluff their way in checking your hand carry bag. Once they find any of these documents then you might as well bid goodbye to your travel plan.

7. Practice what you will say during the interview and anticipate their questions since these people are trained to find loopholes in your travel plan. During my interview I was able to give convincing answers to her questions and inquiries thus she didn't have any choice but to allow me to proceed to Abu Dhabi city. Stick to your plan and if you need to raise your voice then don't be afraid to do so. You are not breaking any law but raising your voice to emphasize your points is totally different from shouting invective to the immigration officer. We need to respect these guys too since they are simply doing their job though sometimes they go beyond their limit.

8. Dress and act appropriately. These guys even without admitting it are trained to profile people. Most of the times they can easily detect whether you are indeed tourist or otherwise by simply analyzing the way you dress, act and talk. How can you expect them to believe that you'll go to Hong Kong as tourist when you're sporting an obviously cheap shoulder bag bought from "tiangge"or wearing an imitation t-shirt or worst being nervous during the interview. Relax and try to control yourself during the interview. To add, I understand that many tourist workers are indeed in need of money but there are ways to make it look that you have plenty of it. Visit a parlor where you can have your hair arranged before your flight. A powder and lipstick can do wonders to your face if properly applied. Borrow nice looking bags, dress and shoes. Believe me, I have seen plenty of well or smartly dressed Filipinas leaving as tourists without getting interviewed because they know how to talk, act and dress appropriately. I know because I sometimes hear them talking at the boarding area and some of them even posted their experience in many travel forums such as Pinoy Exchange.

9. Even if you have passed the interview and allowed to catch your flight be aware that there is another group of immigration officers scouting the waiting area for tourist or undocumented workers. You are leaving the Philippines as tourist then act like one while waiting for your flight. Don't talk with your mobile phone bragging to your family at home that you were able to fool the interviewer or talk loudly about your future job. Don't wear long faces or shed tears either. Real tourists wouldn't be doing those things. Hence, after passing the immigration departure area it is better to proceed immediately to the boarding gate since only those with boarding passes are allowed to enter the boarding area. I can confidently say that once you are inside this area you can now assume that you are on your way to your destination.

10. In case you have been prevented to leave by an immigration officer while on queue at departure area then do not argue to avoid getting the attention of other immigration officers manning the other immigration counters. Leave the queue and try to mingle with other incoming passengers and fall in line again discreetly. Make sure to queue on a different immigration counter. I have a couple of colleagues who did this and were able to leave.

11. Finally and most important, you need to convince the interviewer that you will come back to Philippines after your travel period abroad. Hence, bring company ID or business papers in case you are running your own business. You need to prove as well that you have financial capacity to travel abroad. One way of doing this is to make a deposit to your account then request for a bank certificate; you may then withdraw the amount after getting hold of the certificate. You may use this to show the immigration authority that you have money in the bank. You may also request a certificate of employment from your company stating your position and salary; you may show this to the immigration officer in case they are in doubt of your company ID. There are instances too that they would even try to confirm your company ID by calling your office.

All told, even if you follow my tips above they are not sure fire that you can leave the Philippines as tourist worker. They are only tips and guides. Be aware also that once you have been offloaded in any NAIA Terminals and Clark airport it will appear on their database and the next time you try to leave having the same status then you will be subjected to a more thorough interview and less chance to proceed to your destination unless you have acquired proper documents or use a different strategy like getting married and pretending to leave for your honeymoon, LOL.

To build your confidence, always bear in mind that you have the right to travel thus the Philippine government can't prosecute you even if you have been caught trying to leave as "tourist worker."

Good luck and may the force be with you :-)

I have been busy with my new job hence; I have stopped entertaining comments/inquiries about this post. However, I am sure you will get valuable info from the previous comments - 06 Aug 2015

P.S.
Nothing beats a properly documented worker when traveling abroad thus I am also discouraging those "tourist workers" from leaving if you belong to those so-called "unskilled workers" such as DH, construction workers, service crew, etc.. The risk of getting exploited abroad is very high for these kind of workers.

  1. Hi, just want to ask po with regards on the item in number 3. I booked po a hostel for two for our Singapore trip on Saturday but will cancel it since we will be staying to a former boss' friends house. We will just use the booking to show it to the IO as proof of where we would stay. Ask ko lang po if they can trace na i cancelled the booking prior to the flight? By the way its our first time to travel outside the country. Thank you in advance.

    1. No. The IO can't trace your hotel transaction. Tips:
-just give your passport and boardingpass to the IO counter and relax
      - if the officer asks your ticket then prsent your e-ticket
      - if the officer asks where you will stay in SG then that will be the time you will show your hotel booking

      Enjoy your trip.

    1. Just give your passport and boarding pass to the immigration counter.
Research about Dubai. Tell them about the places na gusto mo mkita sa Dubai. Check my posts about Dubai.
      Goodluck.

Are they gonna call the bank?

    4. Yes. Goodluck and I will check my email and FB.

    5. No, the immigration officer has no right to inquire about your bank data. Don't worry even if the IO calls your bank no data will be provided by your bank without any court order. Credit card and usd are enough proof.

    1. Pag nasa Hong Kong kana at may visa ka going to Dubai then ayos na yun.

    2. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the tips, Please continue educating every Juan Dela Cruz so that those crocodiles in NAIA will not have to prey on Filipino tourist anymore. Those disrespectful, arrogant, self-righteous and GODS of NAIA need to finally see and experience that Filipino travelers are now slowly speaking up because they are now well-informed. Been offloaded once before but the one that is so difficult to swallow if getting harassed and humiliated during the interview then offloaded not telling you WHY. KUNG BINABASTOS KA, HUWAG KANG PAPAYAG, I LEARNED THAT MYSELF THE HARD WAY. SINO BA SILA KAPAG HINDI NA SUOT ANG UNIPORME NILANG YUN, ANG UNIPORMENG NAPAKARUMI SA PANINGIN KO. Tutal hindi ka rin naman nila paalisin, might as well get even so they will have a taste of their own dosage.

Kapag tayao may.

      Delete
    4. Are you aware that the right to travel of any Filipino is protected under the constitution? The constitution never states that you need health card, credit card and other ek-ek before you will be allowed to travel. Moreover, regardless of your situation in other countries, the Philippine government is mandated and obligated to extend its assistance and protection to its citizens whether they are documented or not. Are you aware about this also?

FYI, I met many backpackers (Europeans mostly) in Bangkok City and most of them travel with limited budget. It means they don't have health and travel insurance nor travelers check as well.

Read the news...

    1. Medyo complicated ang situation mo. If by chance you will be interviewed ay most probably na ma offload ka. It would have been easier kung sa UAE ka na papunta with affidavit of support from your relative.

Just bluff your way through the IO. Don't tell anything that can be proven otherwise by your documents dahil pag nahuli ka nila then binigyan mo sila ng basehan na I - offload ka since it is obvious na hindi ka papunta sa he as tourist.

Don't talk too much during the interview. Pag tinanong sino bumili ng ticket then tell the truth but invent a good reason why your aunt paid your ticket. Think of a very good reason why you need to go to hk. Ok, don't mention that you have visited UAE before unless the IO asks you. Anyway, the interviewer has no access to their database during the interview.

Lastly, relax ka lang basta anticipate mo lang yung mga puede ng it along then prepare a good answer. Remember less talk less mistake.

To avoid being interviewed follow my tips above. Goodluck.

  11. Hi! Just wanted to ask what are the requirements if we wanted to arrange a personal interview in Abu Dhabi and the person will be coming from Manila. We have already arranged for his visit visa (already issued), e-ticket, hotel booking (including pick-up / drop-off) done. What else do we have to do from here (AUH) or what else does he requires from there. Thanks in advance.

    1. Well, round-trip tickets and hotel booking are essential. I suggest you send an invitation letter to the applicant addressed to the immigration officer stating that he/she will go to Abu Dhabi for an interview. The letter should state that after the interview he/she needs to go back to Philippines and if found fit for the job he/she needs to process the attestation of his/her educational documents at UAE embassy in Manila which is necessary for his/her possible employment in your company. Moreover, he/she needs to undergo medical test as well at accredited hospital.. The letter should be on your company's official letterhead and attested at Philippines embassy in Abu Dhabi. This is only my two cents and not a guarantee that your applicant will be successful in leaving the Philippines. Further, just ask him/her to present only the necessary documents to the immigration officer such as passport, visa and boarding pass unless the immigration officer or interviewer asks for other supporting documents. Lastly, ask your applicant to read this post.

    3. Actually, isa sa mga requirements nila yan. Malaki chance ma-offload ka pag wala ka nyan and first time to travel.abroad ka pa. Sometimes the IO will even ask you to present proof na relative mo talaga yung gumala ng affidavit of support. So better bring some docs also like copies of birth certificate nyo ng relative mo.
Anyway, you just need to present passport and boarding pass sa IO. Wag mo muna I pa kita other docs hanggang hindi hinihingi.

Actually unexpected po ang pa travel ko cos my fiance surprised me for this. Then I have already my passport which its been 3years now I never use it. Kc never pa kc ako nakalabas. I have my passport 3years back dahil dat time I was hired as a receptionist in Bahrain pero dpo ako natuloy cos not ready and aside from that not fit to work kc may defuse hyperthyroid po ako. Now I would like to ask by presenting them my medical certificate that state there that I am not allow to work abroad becos of my condition?. Do you think this can help too to avoid being offloaded? And currently not working po ako now, so my monthly income is ung papadala ng fiance ko. But I kep the receipt w/me. Just for incase lng po baka pwde dn to e show sa knila. Now po, my fiance will be applying for an invitation letter for me sa KL embassy means with red tag na yan. So what I have now ay ang RT, hotel booking, passport at soon po affidavit of support. So ok lng ba na ang e show money ko for them is worth 10k? Para mas sure, mag hingi dn ako ng passport photocopy nya, company ID and maybe leave of approval from his company at credit card nya ginamit doon sa hotel booking at RT ko. Ok lang ba na instead of show money, atm ang e present ko. Kc maybank ang atm ko which is my maybank dn ang KL. Pls let me know po the other things to prepare before my flight. 1. You can ask for an authenticated affidavit of support from your fiance but since the guy is not your relative it won't matter for some IO.
Just make sure you have RT tickets and hotel booking. Give to IO your passport and boarding pass. In case you will undergo an interview then anticipate all possible questions and prepare a reasonable answer. You won't lose anything if you decide to bring all those documents you have mentioned above. However, if your fiance is a foreigner then that is another story. Your situation is definitely a red flag for IO.

  20. Hi, thank you for your blog, your tips are very helpful! May tanong lang po ako, kasi I have a son with a Saudi citizen (pero hindi na sa Saudi nakatira) but we are not married kasi medyo mahigpit ang rules nila sa KSA regarding marrying foreign women (Saudi men wanting to marry foreign women should first obtain the consent of the government and submit marriage applications through official channels). Ongoing ang application namin for marriage and awaiting approval pa from his government. Anyway, balak naming mag bakasyon sa Dubai for two weeks, to be shouldered by my son's father. Magkakaproblema kaya kami sa immigration? Susunduin naman nya kami ng anak ko dito, so sabay kami lilipad (tourist visas for me and my son applied through the airlines). I am currently without a job and being supported by my son's father. Wala naman akong balak maghanap ng work sa Dubai (for now..lol) but maybe just to have a feel of the Arab culture before taking the plunge. My boyfriend has been to Philippines many times (may mga tourist ID na nga), pero ako first time ko lumabas ng bansa. (SORRY ANG HABA NG KWENTO KO LOL) Sana ma-advise mo ako, THANK YOU. Bookmarked your page for future reference -

    1. Prepare all the necessary documents attesting na related talaga yung anak mo sa foreign father nya like birth certificate and proof of application nyo for marriage. Sabi mo Saudi citizen na yung anak mo then walang problema yung anak mo lumabas kasi Saudi passport naman ang gagamitin nya. And since ikaw ang nanay so they should allow you to leave with your child as well.

If wala po bang work dito sa Pinas di papayagan mag travel? Thanks po in advance.☺

    1. Ganon ba? Sorry about that. In that case prepare a detailed itinerary for 1 day trip to Bangkok and prepare a good reason why another person bought your tickets. Don'T get me wrong about this kasi our immigration officers will try to find loophole about your 1 day trip. They don'don't care whether you have 3 or 5 bank accounts. So anticipate their possible questions and prepare convincing answers. That is all I can say since I don't know exactly your situation.

    1. Ok. You can use PESO as show money kasi pinaPalitan din sa mga money exchange dun yun nga lang mas mababa. Lastly, try to speak and look like a tourist dahil pag okay ang profiling ng immigration sayo ay LusoT ka agad. It happened to my brother and nephew due to their chinese.surname.

    5. Hi.Just to update again para sa mga readers..
Im at the boarding gate of NAIA Terminal 2 as of now.I passed immigration without hassle. The IO juz asked me why Im coming back to BKK,and I just confidently told her that“kulang kasi ang 7 days para malibot ang buong BKK.”
He asked for a company ID,ang sabi ko lang self employed aq,at may tindahan at loading business ako(kahit wla naman tlga haha) then he asked, ano daw ulit gagawin ko sa BKK,sabi ko magvivisit lng ng mga temple,kc last time nagshopping lang ako. Then tinanung nya kung mag isa lang ako,I directly look in his eyes and said yes.then he stamped my passport.

Tips ko lang sa mga solo female traveller, pumili kau ng guy na IO,at ung mukang bata pa kasi sila ung minsan na hindi pa marunong magpowertripping, and just answer what is asked, wag na kaung magelaborate. and the best tip is dress, talk and act like a tourist,I dont mean to say that u must have a camera in ur neck, just wear clothes that will look like u have money and wear jewelries.I juz wear a cheap brown long sleeve(I bought in HK for 10HKD),black leggings(100php) and a black heels(bought in ukay ukay for 250php)and everyone calling me “Good Morning Ma’am” like Im a boss.I hope makatulong, thanks.

It is more difficult to leave pag na offload kana dahil automatic interview ka ulit and mas rigorous ang investigation.

There is sure way na makalabas ka, pa kasal kayo sa pinas ng bf mong taga hong kong then you can leave as her wife.

She has a contract as a freelancer online tutor with that company and also has payslips from the company. but she does not pay tax. I wanna know if working as a freelancer can be a reason to be denied :(
Aside from that, how much does she need to have in cash and in bank account to prove that she can afford the trip? It is her first time travelling abroad. So I am so worried that I might not meet my friend in Jeju....

    1. I advise your friend to have some show money with her and bank statement if possible to show the immigration officer that she can afford to pay her trip. Also to bring any documents supporting her online job. However, many Filipinos are visiting Jeju as tourists without encountering any problem so I think your friend would not encounter any problem as well as long as she has RT tickets and hotel booking.

    1. You can leave the country as tourist. It is your right. However, since the immigration authority has caught you leaving as tourist worker then it would be more difficult to convince them to allow you to leave in the future unless you comply on the requirements stated on the bump off slip they have given to you. Or allow some time before you try to leave again as tourist. You have better chance of leaving if you are in a tour group or with your family member.

  40. Hi!

I am leaving next month, and worried because of offload issues. This my very first time to travel abroad. My destination is in Japan as tourist without guarantor. I don't have a work and I just graduated and passed the board and as a reward of my parents, They will shoulder all the expenses for this tour. I will stay there for 2 weeks. I have with me my visa, back and forth ticket (but it was bought under my boyfriend CC who's now in Japan), bank certificate, 7 hotel reservations, Debit/Mastercard, and atleast 50,000¥ cash. Is there any way that they can offload me? Hope you can help me with this. So I would know what to prepare. Thank you!

    1. In case you will be interviewed the only problem I foresee is your tickets. If you will tell the same thing to our immigration about the reward thing then they might ask why your bf bought the ticket and not your parents. Anyway, you have a visa, tickets and hotel booking, hopefully you will pass the IO without any ado.

  42. Hello po! I got offloaded last April 27 bound to SG. First time traveler plang po ako.

Prepare all required documents such as RT tickets and hotel booking.
However, it seems nasa database na nila na na offload ka on your way to ST kaya mas mahigit sila next time pag aalis ka ulit going to SG.

      Delete
    2. Just to add, as first time traveler, whatever you put on that piece of paper ay dapat may proof ka. If self employed then produce a proof na may source of income ka. If employed then bring proof of employment. If businessman then bring proof na may business ka.

      Delete
    3. What if question'in kung bakit the first time ay nagdeclare ako n self-employed well in fact employed nman tlga ako? Will it be enough kung complete yung mga proofs ko n employed ako? Can I travel alone? (Traumatized to IOs) :(

      Delete
    4. Well, if that happens you should have a good reason bat ganon. I can't give you the answer. Even if you have proof na employed ka it is still a gamble dahil nag ka record ka na sa immigration. Mas thorough ang inspection nila next time. Kasi ang situation mo right now ay nag ka record kana then mag isa ka pa aalis ulit tapos nag declare ka pa ng self employed before which you are planning to change to employed status.

And after a short vacation here we are planning to go to either Japan or Hongkong,(im a first time traveler) these are my questions smile emoticon

    1. If ba nag apply kame ng visit visa sa japan. Na sya ang sponsor. Since dun sya nakatira ngayon may chance pa din bang maoffload ako kahit may visa na and ksama ko sya mismo na aalis dito?

    2. If sa hongkong kame ppunta may chance bang ma offload ako kasi nabbother kaso baka doubtful pag may ksamang foreigner. Baka isipin ng IO na ggamtin ako for human trafficking .Hes working in a corporate office in tokyo . So pwede ba yun na proof na di nman ako gagamitin as drug mule and we already met before . :) thanks po

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, you are in a complicated situation considering this is your first time to travel outside Phils. Since you are not working it will be very difficult to prove to our IO that you are a genuine tourist. On the other hand, proving to IO that you have a foreigner bf that will shoulder your expenses will put you in red flag status since many pinays who left with foreign bf end up as victim of human trafficking.

To answer your question, yes there is a high probability that you will be offloaded.

My situation is I'm planning to go to Dubai and my sponsor would be the wife of my cousin. Would that be a factor to cause me being offloaded since we're not really related by blood? Does the affidavit of support and their marriage of certificate already enough to prove that I am eligible for tourist visa? The documents I have with me are my passport, company ID and certificate of employment.

    1. As long as you have proof of employment dyan sa Dubai and kumpleto ka sa docs as a.tourist sa KL ay wala akong nakikitang problema. Prepare an itinerary of your trip to KO para in case ma interview ka ay ma convince mo yung interviewer na visit ka lang sa KL.

Nakahanap po ako agad ng work dto nk uwi ako pinas ng feb 28 and i started to work as office admin march 23. Diba po june 12 is holiday, doon
ko gusto mag trip sa kl. June 12 to 15.
Ung bank statement ok naman po at hotel booking kc i can book by my own money. Ung problem lng is ung

holiday ng june 12 fri sat sun 3 days.
Should i postponed my trip. Sorry po dami tanong.

  52. Hi Good day,

Im planning on going to dubai as a tourist and look for a job there. Im planning to have the agency here in philippines to process the tourist visa and the itirenary. I currently have work here but we dont have a company ID and i dont think i can get an ITR either. But i can get a Certificate of employment. I have two bank accounts. one with 120k+ and the other with 170k+. And cash worth 50k. It was the money I saved while working here in the philippines. the reason for two bank accounts was because the other one was nearer at our house.

My concern is the offloading because its my first time to travel outside philippines. What should be the best thing to do so that i wont be suspected of going to dubai as a tourist who will look for work there.

I dont have a credit card. But im planning to get one to use it to purchase my round trip tickets. Should i resign from my current job? if so? how would i answer the IO if he asks me about my work?

And what problem will i be facing during the interview?

    thanks!

    1. it is good to have a credit card then buy your own tickets and book a hotel room. Prepare a good reason why you want to visit Dubai and prepare a thorough itinerary. Request bank certificates and prepare show money. Lastly, convince the IO that you will come back here by showing employment certificate and other related documents.

      Delete
    2. ok. regarding the booking of hotel room. how many days should i reserve?

also the show money, should i carry cash? or the amount in my bank account is enough?

i already have a COE of my current job. im planning on resigning my current job after my tourist visa is processed. Will my COE still be valid?

what other options to use in order to convince the IO that i will be coming back aside from having a job?

      Delete
    3. As tourist, Hotel booking should correspond to your flight details. You should have cash with you always when traveling as tourist. Also our IO sometimes will ask for show money. Convincing the IO that you will come back will depend on your situation and how you will reason out with the IO.

  55. Since this is your first time to travel abroad most likely you will undergo an interview. Thus you need to prove first to the IO that you have graduated recently then bring proof that it was your parents who will shoulder your expenses by showing the receipts of your tickets and bookings. Most probably, the IO will also ask for proof of your parents busines, Prepare tour itinerary. Since I have no idea about your situation I can't tell you how to convince the IO that you will come back after your tour. No worries about your dollar. You check my posts about this.

  57. Hi Good day!
Gusto ko sana mag ask ng questions. My concern is to avoid being offload in NAIA imm.
I have prepared my Etickets, itinerary, hotel bookings and also visa to dubai that i sponsor it on my own, i am currently unemployed pero suportado aq ng fiancee ko for almost 3yrs. It will be my first travel. I am concern if what i preferred is enough? I also have my Atm debit/cards.
I am coming there as a tourist, and also to meet my fiancee there hindi rin po sya resident doon. All we want to do is to tour ans stay there for 1week, hindi po magiging kaduda duda if i will just tell the counselor na mag ttour lang tlga aq at by myself pa? Or mas mainam na i will just tell them the truth na i meet ko fiancee ko doon, i have all the proofs nman po na we have been together for long time ago from pictures and also our bank to bank transactions.
Is there any possibilities na offload parin po kaya ako? Or mag crosscountry nlng aq like hk to dubai?

I really appreciate if you can advice me. Thank u so much and godbless.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Since it is your first time to travel abroad and you chose Dubai as destination which is obviously an expensive place to visit then both options will put you in red flag to our IO. But since you are jobless it is better to gamble on the fiancee side. Just bring all your proof that he is supporting you for the last 3 years and anticipate every ppssoble questions the IO might ask you. However, if your fiance is a foreigner then that is another story where I couldn't be of help anymore. The IO will either profile you as tourist worker (less the fiancee) or victim of human trafficking (with foreign fiancee).

    ReplyDelete
  59. Going to HK before proceeding to Dubai entails additional resources (another tickets and booking) and more effort on your side to convince the IO without divulging that your final destination is Dubai. Keep in mind that once the IO officer detects another set of tickets or gets an idea that you will be proceeding to another destination then you might as well bid goodbye to your travel plan. Once you have been offloaded your name will appear in all the airport terminals. The next time you try to travel abroad it will be more rigorous interview will be conducted by IO.

  60. Hi! I was really delighted when I found your site! Finally! I've seen something different and I was glad when I saw that you response promtly to most of our kababayan who struggles from the agony of being offloaded by the dreadful IOs.

By the way Sir, just like everybody else, I'm also seeking for your advice. I arrived here in MNL last Dec.2014. I'm an ex expat and I've been travelling abroad with my family since 1999. This year, I purchased 3 rt tickets mainly because it was on promo. First, I was able to book a flt to HK and SG with my family which I was not really bothered of being offloaded because we're in a group. Second and what really bugs me is my solo roundtrip flight from MNL-DBX-MNL because I'm currently unemployed. I have yet to book a hotel where I will stay for 2 weeks because I don't have any relatives in Dubai but I've got friends who can help for the sponsorship but not for the accomodation. My visa is okay. I know that I am financially capable since I've been saving for this trip as an early birthday gift to myself but I'm really worried if they ask me about my work which I don't have. I'll be back in Manila 5 days before my birthday to spend it with my family, relatives and friends.

Please give me some tips to lessen my burden because I don't want to be offloaded and feel humiliated because all I wanted is to enjoy what I've worked for. I'm hoping for your response Sir. Thank you so much in advance.

    1. You mentioned that you have booked 3 RT for SG and HKG with your family. If your flight to Dubai is earlier than those bookings then there is nothing to worry about. Just show these bookings to our IO as proof that you will come back. In case your Dubai flight is after these bookings then it will be a different story. I am surprised that you were able to book these flights considering that you are jobless. Surely you have some source of income to fund these travel. Otherwise, you will find it difficult to convince our IO that you won't go to Dubai as tourist worker. However, if you have proof that you can afford your Dubai trip like bank certificates, credit cards, show money then chances are you will be allowed to fly to Dubai considering that you have been travelling in the past as well.

      Delete
    2. Good day Sir! Thank you for the enlightenment. Actually, I've saved long enough for these trips and I was just scared that what if my Dubai flight comes and the IO suddenly tells me i can't leave because I don't have work or probably tells me that I'll just be a tourist worker which is not really the case.

Your response is highly appreciated. Thank you so much Sir.

    1. Dapat ma prove nyo sa IO na may capacity kayo mag travel like bank certificates and show money. Then dapat ma convince nyo rin yung IO na babalik kayo after ng tour.. Tulad ng sinabi ko sa iba, I can't give you any reasons or situation para gamitin nyo sa IO. Lahat mag depende sa real life situation nyo para in case ma interview kayo alam nyo kung pano mag reason out... Anticipate nyo lahat ng puede ng itanong. Wag kayo mag pa kita ng mga education or work certificates... follow my tips above.

    3. Sad to say malaki possibility na ma offload kayo kasi mahirapan kayo mag prove ng financial capability as tourist. Second baka nga ma tanong kayo sa Bahrain and SG entries nyo. Mahirap an din kayo ma convince ang IO kasi ano babalik an nyo sa pinas if wala kayo ng present jobs or business? Medyo obvious din na tourist worker kayo. Anyway, yun lang point of view ko. 2 kasi importante dyan as I have mentioned before na kailangan Meron Kang financial capacity to travel and convincing proof na babalik ka.

Just bring your COE as proof na may capacity ka mag tour.
